Product information "APR Intake System 2.0T EA888 MQB EVO 4 Continental-Turbo (Golf R etc.)"
The APR intake system for the 2.0T EA888 EVO 4 engine is a completely newly developed air intake from the intake manifold right up to the turbo. With a length of 109mm, it can be exchanged directly with the series intake. The system can be individually adapted to your own taste. The body can be used as an open or closed intake. With the extra selectable covers in OEM look, carbon or forged carbon, a completely unique look can be created in the engine compartment. Thanks to interchangeable turbo inlet adapters, the intake can also be installed with larger turbochargers. The system impresses with a low pressure drop, increases the air flow and generates a breathtaking intake noise.
A notice:
The intake can be driven with and without an extra cover. A cover is not absolutely necessary and can be ordered separately if desired!
The intake system
The APR intake system features two front intakes that open into a large airbox. This offers complete frontal coverage of all inlets, which enables a perfect flow of air into the airbox and creates a great sound experience in the open installation. You can optionally choose between three different covers to obtain a closed design. Best of all, no tools are required to install the covers. Inside the airbox is the custom made cotton filter which is designed for high throughput.
The filter is attached to the airbox and flows directly into our massive turbo inlet. The turbo inlet is overlooked in most developments, but requires special attention, as this is where the greatest restrictions on the intake can arise. Thus, the cross-sectional area of the system was increased by 99% in contrast to the built-in series intake. The connection between the turbo inlet and the air box is made by a hose clamp that can be attached without silicone couplings and adapters. The installation is therefore easy to implement and gives the system a clean and professional look.
During development, an attempt was made to make the system as "straight" as possible in order to create an ideal airflow. For example, the air path runs straight after the filter in a straight pipe with no curves or bends. Even if it was not possible to design such paths in all situations, the development goal was to design the perfect flow pattern as well as possible. The flow paths have all been optimized using various simulations (CFD) to minimize pressure drop and turbulence within the system. Even the flexible sections were included in the calculations to prevent minor airflow disruptions. In order to prevent any turbocharger conversions, the pipes have been made extra large to enable the exchange of the turboinlet adapters. Here, too, the installation is carried out with a clamp that requires no additional accessories and enables clean and simple installation. In contrast to the factory inlet pipes, care was taken not to create any sharp or annoying bends in front of the turbocharger.
In short, the intake system for the 2.0T EA888 EVO 4 engine is a complete system that can be connected plug and play. In contrast to the series intake, the APR intake system dispenses with smaller diameters and unnecessary bends that could interrupt the air flow.
performance
In order to increase the performance of an intake system, the pressure drop must be reduced and the air flow increased. These factors allow the turbocharger to work less hard to produce the same amount of power. Depending on the setup of the vehicle, this creates free space upwards to be able to draw in more air and achieve a higher additional output.
The intake system was tested in various configurations on the APR development vehicles through intensive and extensive tests. Both factory turbochargers Garret (GTI/A3 platform) and Continental (Golf R/S3 platform) were tested with open and closed intake systems. The entire system was examined closely from the front inlets to the turbocharger. All measurements were carried out under the same conditions, on the same day with the same pressure on the flow bench.
Continental Turbocharger (Golf R/S3 platform) (CI100053)
In models that have a Continental turbocharger installed from the factory, a higher air flow rate of 39% or 43% is achieved in the closed and open versions. These values refer to the installation of the original turbo inlet adapter.
