APR conducted a variety of tests in selecting the appropriate intercooler and end tank design.
Thermocouples were attached to the top and bottom of the core to measure the cooling effect and cooling distribution throughout the unit. Pressure transducers were fitted to the inlet and outlet of the intercooler to determine the pressure loss across the various units.
With this information, APR engineers specified the appropriate intercooler type, dimensions, fin density, and made the necessary design changes to the end canisters to ensure full utilization of the entire core.
The end result was the development of a system that works much more effectively at cooling compared to the stock cooler. Effectiveness is measured from air inlet temperature to air outlet temperature. The effectiveness of the APR intercooler is between 82-83%, while the standard coolers are only 60-65%.
