MAPCO 16751/1HPS Thin + shorter drive shaft left without joints VW Golf 4 / 5 / 6 / 7
The car drive/cardan shaft is used to transmit power between the gearbox and the driven wheel and is part of the drive train. Cardan shafts consist of the cardan shaft tube with sliding piece and the joints. Two-part cardan shafts are often used. By dividing the cardan shaft, low-vibration operation is achieved and noise is avoided. Cardan shaft damage occurs when the sleeves are damaged. The typical damage pattern is traces of grease, particularly on the front vehicle doors, which are thrown out by the torn sleeve when the steering is fully turned. Penetrating water emulsifies with the grease; dirt also causes wear on the sliding surfaces of the joint. Signs of incipient damage can also be cracking noises when the load changes. Porous sleeves should be replaced soon.
